What sets Mysore silk apart
Mysore silk is woven from fine mulberry silk with a smooth, almost liquid feel and a gentle sheen. Designs are minimal: a plain or lightly patterned body, with the zari concentrated in the border and pallu. The name Mysore Silk is protected by a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, and the original weave is associated with the Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation.
When to wear it
Its light weight makes it a favourite for festivals, family functions and long ceremonies, and for anyone who finds Kanjivaram too heavy. It also drapes neatly for office and formal events.
Care
Dry clean. Keep it in a cotton cover and avoid hanging it for long periods, which can stretch the fine silk.
Questions buyers ask
Is Mysore silk the same as Kanjivaram?
No. Both are pure silk, but Mysore silk is lighter and smoother with simpler designs; Kanjivaram is heavier, with a thicker weave and more zari.
Does Mysore silk crease easily?
Pure Mysore silk creases less than most silks and recovers well after a light steam.
